Burning City

As I was standing there in the dim red light flickering over my face coming from a distant burning city only lake separating me from it, I couldn't but wonder how had it all ended up in a situation like this. Hilt of a broken sword in my hand, badly bruised and hurting all over I glanced over a shoulder just to see the waiting wasteland behind me. I heard it whispering things, whispering as if knowing my intentions, whispering like it knew me. I turned my head to the burning city, feeling... peaceful? How could a person feel such feelings after what had happened to her?
Maybe this was a sign for me to quit thinking myself as a human. More like an animal shielding itself upon the hatred of humans for they saw I was not one of them. I gripped the broken hilt in her hand tighter and threw it into the lake hoping I'd never have to see it again. I started to leave but hesitated. I glanced to the side of a city and squinted my eyes as I thought I saw a figure floating in the air. Rubbing my eyes I tried to spot the figure again only seeing the faint glow of the fires. Coming to a conclusion that it was just an illusion caused by the distant fires, I turned to my back to the city and started walking without a goal, without support and knowing that I'd be an outcast wherever I'd try to settle down. Knowing that I'd be hunted for what I was.
